Stockholm Internet Forum 2019

This year Sida will again organize the Stockholm Internet Forum.
The Forum will take place 16-17 May 2019 at Stockholm City Conference Center.

Stockholm Internet Forum (SIF) is a platform for advancing a free, open and secure Internet as a driver of development. It is organised by the Swedish International Development Agency, and offers an arena for exchange of ideas, knowledge and collaborations. The theme for SIF 2019 is the Shrinking Democratic Space Online.

Repressive measures against minorities, civil society, journalists and other actors of change have grown have grown both in geographic spread and in the diversity of measures that are applied, this is true for both the offline and the online space. Despite many similarities on a global level, it is still important to note that the threats to democracy, and the phenomenon of “shrinking space” is expressed in different ways in different regional and national contexts, on different levels and in different ways to different actors. The shrinking space online takes multiple expressions, and often have negative consequences not only on civil and political rights, but also on social and economic rights and development.

Firmly based on the notion that human rights apply online the way they do offline, SIF 2019 will offer an opportunity to explore the shrinking democratic space, share experiences and identify effective responses.
